The New York Times has alerted New Yorkers that Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is on a mission to stop “unfettered spending on elections by individuals and corporations.” To take action, Cohen will be handing out dollar bills stamped with slogans like “Not To Be Used for Bribing Politicians” and “Stamp Money Out Of Politics” from noon to 2 p.m. today in Union Square Park.
Nearby, on the north end of the park, the History Channel’s “Cross-Country Cookout” will dole out free BBQ cooked in an 80-foot smoker and grill, claimed to be the world’s largest (11am-6pm). The giant smoker and grill has the capacity to cook up to 2,000 pounds of BBQ at once, according to the History Channel website.
And if you’re interested in Ben Cohen’s full reasoning behind handing out free money, he explained himself on Reddit.
