With 90-degree days becoming common place in NYC, the block is hot—literally—no matter where you go in the city. Nerves are shattered and tempers frayed, but if there’s one thing that can bring people together and put a smile on their faces, it’s ice cream.

To see the power of the frozen treat in action, we headed down to the West Village on a scorching afternoon to explore one of the most ice cream-rich swaths of the city. There, we found teenagers gossiping over fro-yo, kids with faces covered in gelato, and old friends catching up over cups and cones of their favorite flavors. Click through the gallery above to see the ice creams—and happy faces—of the West Village.
