Watch The Trailer for Spinning Plates, A New Documentary Featuring Chef Grant Achatz [Video]

And Thomas Keller!

A new documentary called Spinning Plates, to be released October 25th, goes behind the scenes of three restaurants to see what drives their owners to get up and give their all each day. The documentary profiles Alinea, a cutting-edge restaurant named the seventh-best in the world whose chef, Grant Achatz, had to battle tongue cancer to pursue his passion. “If I can’t taste, I don’t even want to be here,” Achatz says in the preview.

Spinning Plates also profiles the owners of Breitbach’s in Balltown, Iowa, “a 150-year-old family restaurant still standing only because of the unbreakable bond with its community.” The third restaurant to be explored by writer and director Joseph Levy is La Cocina de Gabby in Tucson, Arizona, “a fledgling Mexican restaurant whose owners are risking everything just to survive and provide for their young daughter.”

This seems to be a story about the inherent hardships that come with pouring your soul into a restaurant, and the power food gives us to connect to one another. As huge fans of boundary-pushing chef Grant Achatz, we can’t wait to see this flick in theaters. Did we mention French Laundry and Per Se chef Thomas Keller stars in the film alongside Achatz? Yeah, this one’s going to be big.
