We’re in an age of mashup-food mania, a time in which a new frankenfood unveils itself everyday. To help you keep up with all the new hypebeast snacks on the scene, we’ll be doing a weekly roundup of ridiculous mashup foods you need to know about right now, and ranking them on staying power. Read on!

Crunchwrap + cheeseburger = Crunchwrap Burger

The mashup: Taco Bell has contributed its fair share of ridiculous Frankenfoods to the world, so it seems fitting that someone would take a Taco Bell menu item and modify it further. Santa Ana-based Tabu riffed off the Crunchwrap for it’s burger of the month, and from the looks of it, it’s an improvement on the original.

Staying power: Low. Since the item is only available at a single California restaurant, it’s unlikely to cause much of a ripple in the food world at large. Having said that, Foodbeast called the tortilla-wrapped cheeseburger topped with guac and queso fresco the kind of thing “you expect them to serve in heaven.” With those kind of rave reviews, Tabu might want to make it a permanent menu fixture. Choco Taco + Cappuccino = Choco Taco Hot Cappuccino

The mashup: Someone at Bedford + Bowery spotted this Klondike-flavored coffee dispenser at a gas station in Lake Placid, New York. According to Grubstreet, the only other reported sighting was by CNN’s Kat Kinsman, which sort of makes this the caffeine equivalent of a Yeti. Sadly, neither party actually tried the beverage.

Staying power: Medium. This one’s a bit of a sleeper: Although we can only actually confirm the existence of one coffee machine, it’s original retro design (as seen on the manufacturer’s website) has clearly been updated to something more modern-looking. It’s hard to date the original, but there’s something kind of 80s about it if you ask us. This mashup might already have been around for longer than any of us realize. (Photo: Bedford + Bowery)

Bratwurst + hot dog = Footlong Bratdog

The mashup: This is an advanced report—next Tuesday’s MLB All Star fixture is taking place at Target Field in Minnesota, and the stadium is rolling out four new snacks for the big game, including a lobster corn dog and this monstrosity. The bratwurst-wrapped hot dog is itself wrapped in bacon; it’s also one 12 inches long and topped with onions, peppers and sauerkraut.

Staying power: High. We’re predicting sports fans won’t be able to resist the challenge of trying to eat this highly Instagram-able sandwich beast. The self-serve beer that Target Field is debuting alongside the food won’t hurt either. (Photo: Delaware North SportService via CBS Sports)

Kale + soda = Hansen’s Kale Soda

The mashup: Granted, this isn’t so much a mashup as a highly unusual flavor, but it’s sufficiently strange that we thought it warranted inclusion. We’ve ascertained that it’s a promotional flavor from Hansen’s Natural, but where it’s available and for how much longer remains unknown.

Staying power: Low. Although VeganCuts blogged about it back in March, few people seem to care that kale now comes in cane sugary, carbonated form. For now, V8′s hold on canned vegetable beverages remains secure. (Photo: The Impulse Buy)
