Pepsi-Flavored Cheetos Signal the Start of the “Drinks As Food” Trend

Next thing you know, we'll be eating beer in the form of pretzels (hopefully).

Steve over at The Impulse Buy reviewed Frito Lay Cheetos x Pepsi Shuwa Shuwa Cola Corn Snack (aka Pepsi-flavored Cheetos). “In these snacks the cheese powder has been replaced with a cola powder that is disturbingly not brown,” Steve reports. He goes onto say that the Cheetos fizz a little in your mouth, and are “a pretty accurate flavor recreation.” Are Pepsi-flavored Cheetos simply the latest iteration of the hybrid food trend, or do they signal something more?

Yes, we’ve seen food-flavored drinks before—like bacon soda, pumpkin pie water, and turkey & gravy soda—but drink-flavored foods are, as of now, harder to come by. Has the public become more enamored with beverages than actual food? Are drinks the new food? Next thing you know, we’ll be eating beer in the form of pretzels (hopefully), or coffee in the form of cereal, or Dr. Pepper in the form of popcorn. You get the idea.

If you’d like to experience what could possibly be the latest in a long line of food trends, you can buy a bag of Pepsi-flavored Cheetos on eBay for $3.99. Alternatively, you could fly to Japan and cop one at any grocery store.
