Nigella Lawson’s former husband Charles Saatchi has accused his ex-wife of habitual cocaine use, and being “off her head on drugs.” He claims that she used the drug along with cannabis and prescription pills on a daily basis during their 10-year marriage. It is alleged that this information came to light when Saatchi spoke to his daughter Phoebe and other members of his household.
Nigella will be a key prosecution witness, along with Charles Saatchi, in the trial of their two former PAs, Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, who are accused of defrauding the couple out of more than £300,000. The PAs are accused of using company credit cards on luxuries, including designer clothes and first-class air travel.
“A judge has ruled that trial of Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo can go ahead, despite Mr Saatchi suggesting his ex-wife authorized their spending when she was ‘off her head’ on drugs,” reports The Telegraph.
Still, Lawson is expected to be questioned under oath about the allegations that she is a “habitual criminal” following claims about the drugs.
Today (before the case is heard at Isleworth crown court) Judge Robin Johnson read out an email sent from Saatchi on October 10th to his former wife. It read:
“Of course now the Grillos will get off on the basis that you (and) Mimi were so off your heads on drugs that you allowed the sisters to spend whatever they liked and yes I believe every word they have said.”
The sisters refers to PAs Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, and the reference to Mimi was their 19-year-old daughter Cosima, reports London Evening Standard.
