Massive Wave Crashes Through Santa Barbara, California Restaurant

Heavy rain from a pair of winter storms is prompting high surf and flood advisories in areas throughout Southern California.

A sizable wave crashed through the window of Moby Dick Restaurant in Santa Barbara, California, on Saturday morning.

Multiple restaurant patrons captured the frightening moment on camera, including Forrest Buchanan, who put his footage on YouTube. Buchanan writes, “The dining room was filled with the sound of glass shattering and people screaming as a wave of water rush over the dining room carpet.” Watch Buchanan’s footage below.

NBC reports that no one was injured and the restaurant was evacuated soon after the wave smashed through the restaurant windows. Jill Freeland, another diner, told NBC that she and her family are avid surfers, so they were excited to see the huge swells, but did not expect to enjoy their breakfast with a side of window-smashing surf.

According to the below tweet, New York Times writer Jeff Gordinier is into wet and wild dining experiences like the one pictured above.
