There is nothing in this world quite like cold, sweet, and briny oysters on the half shell kissed with a few drops of mignonette.

While we wish we could travel to Brittany, France at lunchtime everyday to slurp oysters on the sand, there’s amazing oyster bars to be found across the U.S. Los Angeles’ The Hungry Cat serves perfect bivalves—as well as plump peel-and-eat shrimp and mean margaritas. When in Seattle, do not miss The Walrus and The Carpenter, which specializes in Washington state bivalves like Samish Bay and Hama Hama. Casamento’s in New Orleans has a fried “oyster loaf” sandwich that we’d kill for. And we’d surely wake up every morning and head straight to the historic Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco if we lived in the Bay Area.

There’s a great big world of incredible raw, fried, baked, and grilled oysters out there. So get up from your desk, find the nearest oyster bar to you, and get slurpin’.
