Two Los Angeles restaurants claim to be the birthplace of the glorious French dip sandwich: Cole’s and Philippe The Original. But we’re less concerned about where the sandwich was first created, and more focused on how beautiful that creation actually is. A classic French dip is a hot, meaty sandwich consisting of thinly sliced roast beef on a French roll, served with a side of au jus (a.k.a. beef juice from the roasting process).
