We must thank the Dutch for bringing a tasty treat they called an oliekoeken to the U.S., which eventually evolved into the American donut. Now, donuts are the favorite food of cops, Homer Simpson, and pretty much anyone who has a sweet tooth. And, really, what’s not to love about fried dough coated in sugar?

We love donuts that come from all over the country, including coconut donuts from Primo’s in L.A., the chocolate glazed variety at Peter Pan Bakery in Brooklyn, and the maple bacon bar from Voodoo Donuts in Portland.

There’s a great big world of fantastic donuts out there. So if you’re looking for some post-lunch inspiration, get up from your desk, find the closest donut to you, and go H.A.M.
