Crafting a definitive list of the absolute best things to eat and drink right now in the U.S. is no small task. That didn’t deter the editors of men’s magazine GQ, who published the “50 Best Things to Eat and Drink Right Now” today on GQ.com.
The magazine’s food correspondent Alan Richman is responsible for the curated roundup, which includes Butcher & Bee’s Chinese pork-belly sandwiches in Charleston, Evil Twin’s “Even More Jesus” Imperial Stout, and Bestia’s pan-seared octopus and squid, among 47 other fantastic looking bites and beverages. Richmond got a few of his chef and brewer friends to give their two cents, including Scarpetta’s Scott Conant, who gives a shout out to the Milokopi Baked Whole in Sea Salt at Milos in Las Vegas, and Le Pigeon’s Gabriel Rucker, who thinks the clam chowder at Ox in Portland is “outrageously good”.
Suprise: the Cronut ranks at No. 23. Richman justifies it’s spot on the list by explaining, “It all sounds ludicrous, until you get a bite of the airy, buttery layers injected with silky cream, all of it sheathed in a sugary, crackling shell.” Personally, we’d take Alla Spina’s Pig Tails with Fennel Agrodolce (No. 25) over a Cronut any day.
