We’ve seen Rothko in rice before, but Mondrian in cake form may be even more impressive. NPR’s The Salt takes a look at artist Caitlin Freeman’s new book, Modern Art Desserts, about the art-inspired confections that sells at the Blue Bottle Coffee bar inside SFMOMA. She takes inspiration from the pieces hanging on the walls of the museum, crafting new edible masterpieces to go along with each new exhibition.
The Mondrian cake is one particularly cool example, using primary-colored elements to evoke the artist’s signature geometric style. Watch a video about how Freeman pulls it off below:
