New York has no shortage of single-item eateries slinging everything from rice pudding (Rice to Riches) to meatballs (the Meatball Shop) to cupcakes (take your pick). It’s easy to roll your eyes at the fad-ification of any foodstuffs, but the latest example may appeal to a nostalgia that trumps all other emotions: the love Rice Krispie treats.

I love them. Christina Tosi loves them. And the two youngsters who inspired Treat House (452 Amsterdam between 81st and 82nd, 212-799-7779), a new all-Rice-Krispies-treat-everything spots on the Upper West Side, love them. Yes, in addition to celebrating a childhood classic, the place has a cutesy origin story going for it: Two brothers, Daniel and Eli Russell, made Rice Krispies treats for a bake sale to raise money for charity, they got really into it, and then they (a.k.a. mom and dad) hired a pastry chef to help them take their creations to the next level.

Can the shop launch a new food craze? It’s got its work cut out for it. One thing’s for sure, though: These mini treats look a whole lot more appealing than the baseball-size monsters you find wrapped in cling film and the bodega checkout.
