Watch Talk Show Host Bill Maher Go on a Rant About Christians Stiffing Waiters

"I don't know when restaurant receipts became the new bully pulpit for Christians," says Maher.

On Friday night, Real Time With Bill Maher host Bill Maher went on a rant against Christians stiffing servers. He began the segment by bringing up the new food stamp cuts that went into effect just last week, and stated that “Republic congressman Stephen Fincher apparently justified the cuts by claiming, ‘The one who does not work, shall not eat.’” Maher goes on to say that he repeatedly sees stories in the newspaper about Christians stiffing servers and justifying their actions with a “good moral Christian reason.”

Maher reports that an Applebee’s waitress in Missouri got a note from a Chruch pastor on his restaurant bill stating, “I give God 10%, why do you get 18?” Maher also claims that some Christians in the Bible belt have resorted to leaving phony $10 bills on the table after a meal in lieu of a tip. “It looks like a 10, so you get the benefit of giving people hope and then crushing it,” says Maher. On the back of the fake bill it says, “Some things are better than money, like your eternal salvation that was bought and paid for by Jesus going to the cross.”

Maher continues his rant, telling the story of a Christian family who left their gay waiter this note:

“Just because you’re eating out doesn’t mean you have the right to tell your server who they should be eating out,” Maher quips.
