As part of a year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Marcel Proust’s Swann’s Way, pastry extraordinaire (and Cronut inventor) Dominique Ansel will be doing a live reading of the classic novel in French at the Simone Subal Gallery in Soho on November 12th from 7 to 10pm. Ansel says “with the strong connection of Proust to madeleines, it seemed only natural I participate.” Other incredibly awesome people taking part in the live readings include: Ira Glass (This American Life), author Rick Moody (The Ice Storm), and Lorin Stein (editor of The Paris Review).

The  readings will take place in three hour increments at venues across the city from November 8th to 14th, including The Wythe Hotel in WIlliamsburg (where the readers will lie in a hotel bed in tribute to the opening scenes of the novel), nightclub Le Baron in Chinatown, the French Embassy, the New York Botanical Garden, and the Soho art gallery. A group of students and alumni from the School of Visual Arts will be sketching the readers in their specific setting while they read aloud. The illustrations in Moleskine sketchbooks will then be exhibited at the French Embassy.

The live readings are free to attend, so make your way to one of the events below—rumor has it Ansel will be making fresh-baked madeleines for attendees at the Simone Subal Gallery reading.
