For a recent sketch on his TBS talk show, Conan O’Brien commandeered the GoPro, which is billed as the world’s most versatile camera, designed to capture places and angles video has never seen before. The camera has many applications, but Conan discusses its use in the world of extreme sports. He explains that athletes mount GoPros on surfboards and sky divers affix the cameras to their bodies to capture the free fall.
Conan, of course, subverts this excitement by offering close-up views of trombonist Richie “La Bamba” Rosenberg playing with a Go Pro mounted on the side of his trombone, and the view from the bottom of his own mug as he takes an exaggerated sip of water. Conan also secures the camera to the end of a sandwich, which announcer Andy Richter proceeds to eat. Yeah, it’s a complete waste of a GoPro. But it’s pretty damn funny, too.
