Few songs capture the animosity that exists between the police and communities of color quite like “Fuck Tha Police,” NWA’s 1988 testament to being hassled by the cops on the streets of Los Angeles. Today, as tensions between the police and the neighborhoods they patrol remain at an all-time high, that anger has at times spilled into the restaurant industry, with employees refusing to serve officers and tampering with their food.
Now, according to the Houston Chronicle, a dishwasher at Going’s BBQ and Steak Co. in Crosby, Texas has been fired after repeatedly blaring “F*ck Tha Police” while officers dined at the restaurant.
Though the post has since been deleted, deputy Shane Cates initially wrote about the incident on Facebook, claiming the employee was laughing while he was “singing the song and pointing out towards the eating area.”
“I was completely shocked and thought surely no one was doing that as a dig on cops,” Cates wrote, according to the Chronicle.
Still, one of the restaurant’s owners confirmed the accusations to local media, and Going’s BBQ and Steak Co. later issued an apology on its website, blaming the controversy on a “young and reckless teenager.”
“We would like to extend a sincere apology to our men and women in blue and to everyone in the Crosby community that was recently affected by this incident,” the post reads. “This began as a joke by a young and reckless teenager that was unaware of the magnitude of his actions. Goings BBQ as a company did not, nor will ever condone such language nor such blatant disrespect directed towards an officer or any other individual.”
There’s no word yet on what Dr. Dre and Ice Cube think of the “young and reckless” teenager’s actions.
