It’s been a big couple of days for Lil Chano from 79th. On Monday night, Chance the Rapper appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform his song “Blessing” from Coloring Book with Anthony Hamilton, Ty Dolla $ign, Raury and D.R.A.M. Then, on Tuesday, after teasing a photo of the spot just 24 hours earlier, Kit Kat unveiled its new, Halloween commercial starring the Chicago-bred rapper.
As the photo suggested, Chance can be seen walking around a convenience store in a bear costume and his signature “3” hat. When he stops to pick up a candy bar, he’s greeted by Chance the “Wrapper” on the packaging, who sings a soulful, piano-laden version of Kit Kat’s famous “Gimme a Break” jingle. Leave it to the Kanye’s best prodigy to turn a song about chocolate-covered wafer biscuits—usually accented by the grating sound of people chomping and chewing—into a beautiful gospel tune.
Though the rapper is infamous for releasing his music without the backing of label, in recent months Chance has signed on to work with a number of major brands, collaborating with Nike, as well H&M and Kenzo.
