Back in May, Gucci Mane was released from prison early after serving two years on a federal firearms charge in Terre Haute, Indiana. Finally home in Atlanta, fans saw a slim, grinning Guwop parade around his Georgia mansion, profess his new-found love of kale, and drop a full-length album, Everybody Looking, in July. But even while Gucci appeared to be a free man, an ankle bracelet kept the rapper from leaving his home, forcing Mike Will Made-It to deliver burgers from Ann’s Snack Bar right to his door.
Well, as of this week, Gucci is finally off house arrest, cutting his ankle bracelet off on Snapchat. In New York City for a few days, Guwop of course headed to the strip club to celebrate his freedom.
According to TMZ, the rapper and his girlfriend, Keyshia Ka'oir, headed to the club together and made it rain with $10,000. Although in a recent interview with the New York Times Gucci admitted to being a recovering lean addict—apparently giving up the booze, too—he bought 10 bottles of liquor for his buddies Fabolous, Young Metro, and Uncle Murda.
Still, the night culminated with a $975 “Welcome Home” cake, made by French Culinary Institute grad Nerwan Khalife, and decorated with 24-karat gold.
In an interview with Hot97 this week, Guwop detailed how ate in prison—and there was no gold cake involved. Still, the rapper said he got some special treatment.
“In prison, it’s a bunch of slop,” he said. “But I was in there like the Mafia back there in the kitchen. If you’ve got money, you can make something happen. So, with that being said, you know, I was working my move, eating healthy. I could eat whatever I wanted, probably. Because, you know, money make ‘em shake.”
