Everybody loves pizza. But when you weigh nearly 800 pounds like Rhode Island resident and former Dr. Phil guest Steven John Assanti, pizza is not your friend.

Assanti was staying at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for 80 days before he violated his care plan by ordering pizza to his hospital room. Assanti told NBC 10,

[pullquote]”I was supposed to stay there and lose all my weight and get down to 550 to get the gastric bypass [surgery]. That was their plan.”[/pullquote]

The 33-year-old had lost 20 pounds since first being admitted to the hospital, but the Rhode Island Hospital staff told Assanti he could no longer stay after ordering the pizza.

They loaded Assanti into his father’s SUV, and Steven and his father began looking for someone who would help them. Assanti’s father says bringing him home would be a death sentence:

“If he comes home, and I do get him up the stairs somehow some way, he’s going to go right back to his eating habits… I called everyone in the state of Rhode Island, but nobody is helping.”

According to a recent update from Assanti’s father, his son is now at Kent County Hospital in Warwick, where he’s hoping he can stay for a little while and get treatment.
