Chick-Fil-A is opening a new location in Herald Square on October 3, smack dab in the middle of Midtown Manhattan. To make sure that the restaurant is packed from the minute it opens, the chicken-sandwich slingers are giving away a year of free food to 100 of the chain’s first 300 customers.
According to Gothamist, the winners of the free food will be picked in a lottery-style drawing of the first 300 guests at the location’s Saturday morning grand opening. The lucky third that wins will be given a gift card good for one chicken sandwich meal a week. As for the two-thirds that don’t win, well, we’re expecting them to be pissed.
Chick-Fil-A is suggesting people show up at 6pm on Friday night, 12 hours before the store opens at 6am. So if you’ve got your eye on that free chicken, make sure to show up really freaking early and bring an umbrella, because NYC is supposed to get a rain storm the night before the opening.
Just last week, a Minnesota Chick-Fil-A location ran a similar grand-opening promotion, but gave away a free meal every day for the lucky winners, instead of the New York location’s one-a-week prize. Die-hard chicken lovers in Minnesota showed up 24 hours early in droves to try and win their 365 free chicken sandwiches, and if we know New Yorkers, they will no doubt do the same.
To get people hyped for the release, Chic-Fil-A has also been driving a truck around the city and handing out free sandwiches for over a month now. This Instagram video shows how long people will line up for one free sandwich; now imagine how many people will show up for the chance at a whole year of free food.
