Slightly less than a year ago, Red Lobster’s future looked uncertain. Now that it’s in the hands of new owners Golden Gate Capital, the AP reports that Red Lobster is reclaiming the identity that made it famous with its new menu.
Red Lobster president Salli Setta told Yahoo! Finance Canada,
The official announcement states that “Guests can now enjoy lobster on virtually every page of the menu,” and boasts three new straight lobster dishes:
- Wood-Grilled Lobster Tacos
- Lobster Scampi Linguini
- Roasted Maine Lobster Bake, which is “a 100% lobster entree“
Diners who like additional seafood with their lobster can try the “new and improved Signature Combinations.”
- Wood-Grilled Lobster, Shrimp, and Salmon
- Ultimate Feast (Improved), which features “Tender Maine lobster tail, steamed North American snow crab legs, and nearly 50% more shrimp in the garlic shrimp scampi.”
The AP adds that this new menu is now over 85% seafood, up from its previous 75%. Unlimited Cheddar Bay biscuits thankfully remain unchanged.
CEO Kim Lopdrup, who previously served as Red Lobster president from 2004 to 2011, is now back at Red Lobster. Lopdrup says that crazy discounts like “30 shrimp for $11.99″ was a mistake.
What’s more, former Red Lobster owner Darden had added non-seafood dishes to the menu, like a wood-fired pork chop and a spicy tortilla soup. Darden hoped this move would pull in customers who didn’t like seafood, but it didn’t work—Darden saw its lowest Red Lobster sales ever for its final fiscal year, with sales declining 6 percent.
Those non-seafood dishes are now gone from the menu, making way for the new and improved seafood choices that Red Lobster hopes will re-establish its place in the casual chain restaurant wars.

After all, we’re pretty sure no one ever said, “I really want a pork chop, so I’m going to Red Lobster.”
