We’ve talked about food emojis that we wish existed before. But all along, there’s been one emoji that’s so necessary, we think it could possibly bring the entire world together, uniting us all despite our differences.

What is this imperative emoji we speak of? The taco emoji, of course.

The Unicode Consortium has announced a final list of 37 potential emoji candidates for the mid-2015 release of Unicode 8.0.

The Consortium broke down these emoji into four categories:

  • Faces, Hands, and Zodiac Symbols
  • Symbols of Religious Significance
  • Most Popularly Requested Emoji
  • Missing Top Sports Symbols

Unsurprisingly, the taco was included in the list of Most Popularly Requested Emoji.

What’s even more interesting is that seven out of the eight items on that list are all food and drink related.

The Consortium does warn in its post that “there are many possible emoji that could be added, but releases need to be restricted to a manageable number.”

In other words, we should be cautiously optimistic about the potential for a taco emoji takeover.

The post goes on to add some words of encouragement if your favorite emoji still isn’t available yet:

“Many other emoji characters, such as other food items and symbols of religious significance, are still being assessed, and could appear in a future release of the Unicode Standard.”

If you have a strong opinion about the 37 emoji candidates for Unicode 8.0, or if you really want to see other emoji in future Unicode Standard updates, the Consortium has a feedback form you can use.
