Bergeron’s is known for serving great cajun cuisine in Port Allen, LA. But a new promotion that owner Kevin Cox started a couple weeks ago is drawing national attention.

Cox summed it up for WAFB very simply: “If you have a gun on you, I’m going to give you a discount.”

It started with police officers, to whom Cox would offer a discount when they came in with their service weapons in their holsters. Cox elaborated

“My friends and relatives would come in with their guns on their holster. I felt good about that. It made me feel safer that they were there with their gun so why not include all good citizens with the officers too.”

Now every gun owner who shows Cox their piece gets a 10% discount.

Bergeron’s customer Steve Moore told WAFB, “I think it protects the restaurant. It discourages people from breaking in. If they think someone may have a gun and it’s concealed, you’ll think twice about coming in and robbing somebody.”

Gun owner Mike Campbell missed out on the discount because he left his gun in his truck and carpooled to lunch with someone else. Still, he was enthusiastic, and said

You feel safer because I mean somebody walks in and wants to rob the place, they’re going to think twice when they see it’s not a gun free place.”

Cox summed up the philosophy behind this new promotion for NBC33“As long as everybody has a gun we’re all the same size.”

He also thinks he could convince potential criminals to opt for his fried catfish instead. “I think they would come in with a gun to rob me and just have lunch.”
