New Yorkers won’t have to suffer yet another miserable, Blizzard-free summer this year. The first Manhattan outpost of Dairy Queen debuted yesterday on 14th Street, and the constant mob of ice-cream fiends lining up all day was clear evidence that fro-yo’s awful reign may finally be over.

Important distinction for fans of the Midwestern chain: The new location is a DQ Grill & Chill, meaning that it sells fast-food classics—burgers, chicken strips—alongside the famous frozen treats like dipped cones. Blizzard loyalists should also note that the store has the brand-new s’mores flavor on offer, as well as the New York-exclusive Big Apple Blizzard with crispy pie-crust pieces and apple.

First We Feast contributor/dog-food expert Seamus McKiernan hit up the grand opening to talk to some New Yorkers and find out why they are so amped to have a DQ in their backyard.
