In a true Thanksgiving miracle, Sacramento is uniting to replace donated food stolen from a church’s pantry. A gang of thieves broke into Sacramento’s Christ Temple Apostolic Church through a gymnasium window on Friday, stealing food donations meant to give struggling community members a full Thanksgiving meal. Every single item of food was gone after the robbery.
Charlotte Barbee, the youth minister at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, had just received a large donation from her coworkers at UC Davis that she aimed to add to her church’s Thanksgiving dinner, reports CBS Sacramento.
CBS Sacramento reports that this is only the latest in a series of unfortunate events related to the church. Presently, nearly half the building is unusable because the parish wasn’t able to raise $70,000 to fix their leaky roof. After agreeing to house a group of homeless people for four days last year, the church’s sound system went missing.
The community has reached out to replace the food stolen from Christ Temple. Sacramento residents and non-members of the church have been stopping by with donation items.
Barbee said she believes this second effort is even stronger than the first, and that “this Thanksgiving feast will be something they’re even more grateful for.”
