Dominic Episcopo’s project “Meat America” shows that one man’s hearty dinner can be another’s preferred art medium. The photographer’s Kickstarter book project is highlighted by Smithsonian Magazine this week. With $6,908 raised thus far, Episcopo has only five more days to meet his goal of $11,500 to fund a 110-page hardcover book.
Why meat? According to his intro page, the use of meat is “aimed to bring to life our collective American appetite of insurmountable odds, limitless aspiration and immeasurable success.”
Episcopo isn’t the first artist to employ meat as an artistic medium. Smithsonian lists a handful of similar projects for carnivorous art fans to check out: Mark Ryden’s “The Meat Show: Paintings about Children, God and USDA Grade A Beef“; Marije Vogelzang’s “Faked Meat“; and Dimitri Tsykalov’s “Meat Weapons.”
