16% of Yelp Restaurant Reviews are Fake

Thanks, Eater, for bringing us this horrific statistic: according to a study by the Harvard Business Schoolnearly 16% of all Yelp restaurant reviews in the metropolitan Boston area are fake. The study asks: “Does review fraud respond to economic incentives, or is it driven mainly by a small number of unethical restaurants that are intent on gaming the system regardless of the situation?” Either way, you might want to consult this guide instead of Yelping your dinner tonight.
