The 10 Best Beer Labels of the Week: February 23, 2013

Ogle. Open. Drink. Repeat.

  • So many great details in the art for this collabo between Prairie Artisan Ales and Saint Somewhere, including the writing in the sand and the burger on the beach towel.
  • Any beer with a Groucho Marx quote on it gets the thumbs up.
  • A major mid-Atlantic brewery collabo—Devil's Backbone, DC Brau, and Brewer's Art—deserves some major artwork. Mission accomplished.
  • The Anchorage Brewing Co. bottles are always badass, and this one, featuring some sort of fearsome sea monster, is no different.
  • To Øl continues its streak of gallery-worthy artwork.
  • Classic Mikkeller, with a great color palette.
  • Crossing out "bottled" and scribbling in "canned" feels like a watershed moment—it's the way the entire industry seems to be going.
  • This label is just straight-up pretty; nice concept and colors, especially for a beer packed with tropical-fruit flavors from the Citra hops.
  • Yet again, I'm a sucker for a good beer pun.
  • Winner of this week's "So Bad, It's Good" award: A beaver that looks like a butt.

New York City Craft Beer Week kicked off last night, so this weekend will be devoted mostly to sipping rare draft and cask pours, since bars around the city are pimping out their beer lists for the occasion. Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some fine bottles out there to covet—check out the latest from Anchorage Brewing Co., Mikkeller, and more..
