A Brief History Of Fans Catching Baseballs With Their Beer Cups (Video)

Turns out the best way to catch a foul ball at a baseball game is with a cup of beer. At the Wednesday night’s Astros-Mariners game in Seattle, Justin Smoak found a ball landing in his beer and then, in an impromptu celebration, proceeded to chug what was left in his cup. The video has been making its way around the Internet, but apparently this foul ball catching style isn’t a freak occurrence.

Below, we rounded up some other fans who have also caught balls using their beer cups, or managed to salvage their brews while making amazing one-handed grabs. You can leave your glove at home next time you head out to the baseball stadium—just grab a brewski and you’ll be ready to roll.
