Early-morning stoners, rejoice. A new product hitting legal weed states is about to make getting your breakfast buzz a whole lot easier.
A California-based company called BrewBudz is jumping into the cannabis industry with weed-infused coffee and tea pods, which are said to fit inside any standard Keurig coffee maker. That's right, soon cannabis enthusiasts will be able to start their days with some marijuana-fueled java with just the push of a button.
"It's an opportunity to bring together two different rituals in life," Jeffry Paul, the Vice President of BrewBudz told Westword, an alternative weekly based out of Denver, Colorado. "Drinking coffee or tea is something that's part of your every day.... There's also a ritual for marijuana, whether it's medicinal or recreational."
True to Paul’s word, BrewBudz is planning to make caffeinated beverages for both medicinal and recreational purposes. According to Westword, pods for recreational, let’s-get-high-and-watch-cartoons use contain 10 milligrams of THC, while pods for serious medicinal use contain 25 to 50 milligrams of Cannabidiol, or CBD.
The company plans to use sativa strains for their caffeine blends to add an additional kick, but a decaf version of the coffee will be infused with indica, which is said to be better suited for sleep.
As Eater notes, BrewBudz will cost about $7 a piece, representing a notable mark-up from the 60-cent K-cups one might find at the grocery store. But considering the amount of bud packed inside (the product is made without any oils or extracts, using on “flower-based-edibles”), it’s probably not too bad of a bargain. Plus, all those pesky plastic containers are fully biodegradable and hippi-friendly.
To get your hands on BrewBudz, you'll have to move to a state that’s legalized weed for the time being. The pods will roll out in six states between now and March.
At the very least, the company’s cannabis-fueled brew should make that Monday morning commute a bit more fun.
